Ode to Moms I Admire Who Fight Draconian Ed. Reform

I am not a poet and I know it, but here I go ith.

Here’s to the Moms who
fight Common Core.
They want it thrown out the
classroom doors….
It’s a bore!
And we don’t adore.

Here’s to the Moms who
support all the children,
even those not their own.
Treat yourself to tea and a scone.
Or coffee and an éclair.

To the Mom who knows reading is tough.
Who doesn’t shy away when the going gets rough.
Because she pays attention…there should be no retention.
A good and caring mom known for intervention.

Here’s to the Moms who care for the teachers.
It’s one of the teacher’s favorite features.
Who knows today’s reforms will not transform
the problems in education.

Here’s to the Moms who struggle to help
with homework.
Who gather together to fight goofy math.
Because it takes children down
an awful wrong path.

Or favors fun reading over informational text.
Moms know such changes only perplex.
Who love silly books
And funny looks
And joyful noise
From their girls and boys.

Who fight high-stakes testing
because they know it’s not best.
Its sole purpose it seems is to
make children a wreck.

Here’s to Special Ed. Moms who recognize truth.
That special is special and a worthy pursuit. And
Victories though seemingly sometimes quite small, are, in fact,
Of course, The Really BEST victories of all.

Here’s to the Moms
Married, Doubled, or Single.
Happy or sad, it sounds like a jingle.
Moms rule the world and that’s not half bad.

Here’s to all the moms
who fight harmful standardized tests.
You are the best…I said this before.
It’s worth saying again.

To Moms who love music,
And Moms who love dance,
And Moms who can laugh
at Captain Underpants.
And  Mom’s who love drama
And Mom’s who can rant.

Here’s to the Mother whose
Child has gone.
Who misses their presence
But knows they’ll go on….
Who runs with the mighty
Who knows just not how,
Even though the love flows
On and On  Forever….

Here’s to Moms who like wine.
And Moms who don’t drink.
And Moms who spend too much
of their time
at the kitchen sink.

To Mom’s who teach
and Mom’s who preach
and Mom’s who like to lie on the beach
(and watch their kids so waves don’t wash them away).

To Mom’s who fight charters.
And Mom’s who won’t barter.
Who know right from wrong.
And how to stand stronger.

And Mom’s who grow TREES
in Sweet Tennessee.
And Moms who Growl loud
like bears at what’s foul.

For Mom’s tired of  Haslam and Huffman
and Rhee, again I am talking back in
Ole Tennessee. (Although Rhee can
pop out anywhere! YIKES!)

For FCAT Florida Mom’s who’ve had enough!
They’re a formidable bump
should Jeb Bush jump
into a run…it won’t be fun
to watch… or maybe it will?

To Moms in New York who show us how tough
they can be.
Whose example helps others when the going
gets rough.

For sad Moms
and glad Moms
and Dad Moms too.
For Grandma Moms
and Teacher Moms
we’re banking on you.

To Moms in Chicago who stand straight and tall.
In Philly and North Carolina
you are some of the best of them All.

To Moms who are here,
and Moms who are gone
Your memory for sure will always
Live on….

You’ve got the power
so don’t ever cower.
Keep public schools in sight.
You will save them because of your
might.

OK.
Enough of this.
I certainly tried.
Have a great DAY Mom.
My words have now died.

Here’s to you all!
Thank you so much
for saving our schools!
Bring back Double Dutch.
(Just threw that in there).
