40 Reasons to Honor Teachers in 2016

May 1, 2016 By Nancy Bailey 4 Comments

Post Views: 3,390

Last year I made this list in honor of all teachers for teacher appreciation week.

It is that time of year again! So, I’d like to wish all my teacher friends a wonderful week! I hope you can focus on the great jobs that you do despite any problems that come your way.

I added a couple more points about being appreciative for teachers.

Please feel free to add to this list in the comment section.

  1. Teachers in public school teach all children—they reject no one.
  2. Teachers choose teaching because of their subject and mostly because they like the students.
  3. Teachers don’t pick their careers for the money.
  4. Their teaching is free (well except for AP).
  5. Many teachers pay-out-of-pocket for materials.
  6. Teachers protect their students.
  7. Teachers support parents and can be a great back-up.
  8. Teachers encourage students to do their best.
  9. They take students on exciting field trips.
  10. Teachers create interesting lesson plans.
  11. They decorate their classrooms even in the poorest schools.
  12. Each teacher has a different and interesting personality.
  13. Teachers listen and help solve problems.
  14. Teachers correct students so they don’t make fools out of themselves.
  15. They make students laugh.
  16. Teachers help students plan for the future.
  17. They evaluate student work.
  18. Teachers study to understand how to be good teachers.
  19. Teachers give students paper and writing tools when they forget to bring their own.
  20. Teachers connect families to outside resources.
  21. Teachers keep teaching even when they feel bad.
  22. They teach students how to read, do math, and other subjects.
  23. Teachers believe in their students and advocate for them.
  24. They help students make good choices.
  25. Teachers struggle to do what’s right for students.
  26. Teachers fight for student rights outside of school.
  27. Teachers do not care if students aren’t perfect.
  28. Teachers like diversity.
  29. Teachers can teach students art, music, acting and even dance.
  30. Teachers never quit learning.
  31. Teachers like to show-off student accomplishments.
  32. Teachers love it when students try their best.
  33. Teachers take pride in their students.
  34. They will cheer students on in their sporting events.
  35. Teachers team with other teachers to lift students up.
  36. Teachers never forget their students.
  37. Teachers never stop learning new ways to teach.
  38. Teachers help students get organized.
  39. Teachers bring in cookies and cupcakes and treats.
  40. A Teacher’s Motto is “Once a teacher always a teacher.”

Teachers are having a rough time. Many in this country don’t like teachers and blame them for all the problems in the world. Teachers like to see students return to visit, or hear from them so they can see how they turned out. Help turn it around. Support your public school teachers.

Don’t forget it is teacher appreciation week. Tell your teachers thanks. That’s all they really want. And respect them all year round.

To all the wonderful teachers I know–thank you!

Teachers are always on the lookout for materials, ideas, and activities that will benefit their students, while they are on their own time–evenings, weekends, and vacations.

That’s the truth! Good one, Sheila. I will add that I still look at everything as to how it could be used for instruction. I guess it never leaves you.

We parents tend to forget our children’s teacher/teacher’s have children of their own. They give so much of their time, even us parents take for granted. Some teach at the school their own attend and when parent/teacher conferences are held, meet the teacher night, after school activities/tutoring are all going on, those teachers don’t get to par-take in the same manner we get to enjoy. They also may miss their own kids school performance because they are helping one of their own students succeed. I know because my family is blessed to have a teacher so dear to us, my sister n law. Till I lived with her for two months, I too thought nothing about it. I seen the dedication, the late night grade papers, so she could watch the last few mins. of her own kids sport or just time to ask how their day went and what all it in tailed. Watching her juggle all of this gave me a different look on teacher’s, They are simply….Amazing…..Beautiful… Kind….they too are our Family!

Michelle, That’s an excellent point! I don’t think most remember that about teachers but it is not easy to teach and parent at the same time. Although some parents arrange for their students to be at the same school which might make it easier. Students might not think so though. Ha!

I asked ChatGPT "Is the 'science of reading' settled science that determines how reading should be taught?" Here's the response. https://nancyebailey.com/2023/03/19/what-does-chatgpt-say-about-the-science-of-reading-it-may-surprise-you/

Paul Vallas stole people’s schools which means their community. Listen to parents from NOLA and Philly tonight. He did this bc he believes corp interests prevail. And there’s good $ in that. Chicago will be 💯 better with @Brandon4Chicago. 😊

@SlenderSherbet @deutsch29blog …..just like a mandatory Reading Program for Pre-K.
If kids struggle, refer for remedial services?
Label kids ‘Not Ready for K’?
Rigor will overcome everything?
We’re just not aiming high enough?
We’re not challenging children enough?
Why not pre-k Calculus class?
👅: cheek?
