Reminder: forcing children to read before they're ready & then FLUNKING them in third grade means failure for the child. Research shows this is unnecessary & there're better ways to help children besides 3rd-grade retention. https://nancyebailey.com/2017/10/09/force-flunk-destroying-a-childs-love-of-reading-and-their-life/

Surprise! Surprise! National Education Policy Center evaluation poked holes in Sept 2022 Thomas B. Fordham Institute study that attempted to justify the for-profit charter sector.
But NEPC gets no press attention. @nytimes prefers such perennial profiteers as Petrelli https://twitter.com/tultican/status/1620414266015911937

Interviewed a teacher last year who left the profession.

Why did you resign?

“I have a Master’s degree. I work really hard. I love teaching kids and am great at my job. I do it all for a disgracefully low salary. All of that and I’ve never felt so disrespected by so many.”

Wow. I just sent an email to my school board yesterday in support of the many good things in the proposed budget.

This will have a very negative effect on many school district budgets in Virginia and on our kids' education.

Not good, not good at all.
