Frustrated by public schools? Look no further than the corporate education reformers and what they have done to public education. Education Secretary DeVos and her corporate billionaire friends have been chipping away at the fabric of democratic public schools for over thirty years! The problems we see in public schools today are largely a result […]

April 15, 2018 By Nancy Bailey 28 Comments

The NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress) reading scores are flat, and everyone is wondering why. I thought I’d create a list. Why aren’t America’s students reading better? What can schools and parents do about it? I love brainstorming when it comes to teaching reading, as you can tell. Here are some ideas. If you […]

The Real Meaning Behind the Duncan/Huffman Tough Special Ed. Compliance Talk

June 26, 2014 By Nancy Bailey 27 Comments

What are they really doing? Everyone who cares about students with disabilities is troubled by Arne Duncan’s latest NPR blathering over the Obama administration’s plans to get even tougher on special ed. and to test these students more and include their scores in the National Assessment for Education Progress known as the Nation’s Report Card. […]

To the Pretenders Atop the Ed. Ladder–This is How You Spell D-I-S-C-O-N-N-E-C-T

December 6, 2013 By Nancy Bailey 1 Comment

One wonders what sort of alternative universe the so-called education leaders live in these days—most whom only taught a year—if they taught at all, and who most likely never bothered to lower themselves to take one of those silly courses about child and adolescent development. Across the country parents and teachers are rallying in their […]

Nancy Bailey: Reading Disabilities: Focus on Public Schools NOT School Choice!

“It’s unfair to say public school teachers fail to teach reading, while charter schools show substandard results. This creates a double standard.” @NancyEBailey1

The focus should be on lifting traditional public schools & reading programs for many students who attend those schools rather than on unproven private and charter schools. Fix IDEA by increasing options. https://nancyebailey.com/2023/01/29/reading-disabilities-focus-on-public-schools-not-school-choice/

Special interests call ESA vouchers “scholarships” because private schools select their students. It’s not “school choice,” it’s the school’s choice 😡#AZVoucherWatch #VouchersHurt #FundOurSchools

On-demand standardized testing has no place in kindergarten. There are far more appropriate and meaningful methods of assessing young children. https://twitter.com/reimagschool/status/1619665302450753536

David Locke @ReimagSchool

My wife's Kindergarten students felt very stressed and were crying when they had to take a standardized test. When she reported this to administrators their solution was "test them until they cry, and then stop." #testthemtiltheycry #resisttesting
