Reading Aloud to Help Children Read Well Their Whole Lives!

August 17, 2022 By Nancy Bailey 12 Comments

Every new parent should get a copy of Jim Trelease’s The Read-Aloud Handbook. Teachers should have a copy too. In honor of the late Trelease, parent and award-winning artist, writer, and author, it’s important to point out that his well-documented research lives on encouraging reading aloud to children, even babies, to foster a lifelong love […]

Toddlers & Preschool Testing? Don’t Steal the Joy of Reading!

August 1, 2018 By Nancy Bailey 5 Comments

A child three years old is still a toddler. What demands, if any, should be placed on a child this young when it comes to learning to read? Will it harm their chances of enjoying reading in the future? This is what we should ask when it comes to the new PELI testing. The same […]

Prepping for Prepping–Prepping for Kindergarten

September 4, 2016 By Nancy Bailey 5 Comments

For $1,000, Santa Monica is prepping its children for kindergarten, because some of the parents there think that nothing says prepared better than preparing for the class that is supposed to prepare you for school. Unfortunately, for children of wealthy families, parents think they have to prep their kids to get into the $25,000 prep […]

Drat Common Core and Potty iPads! Use This Instead to Teach a Child to Read

December 8, 2013 By Nancy Bailey Leave a Comment

Don’t bank on narrow Common Core English language arts skills to teach your child to read. From what I see and hear, over and over, CC increases stress and reduces a lot of students to tears. It pushes very young children to read more difficult material before they are developmentally ready, and it focuses too […]

I asked ChatGPT "Is the 'science of reading' settled science that determines how reading should be taught?" Here's the response. https://nancyebailey.com/2023/03/19/what-does-chatgpt-say-about-the-science-of-reading-it-may-surprise-you/

Voucher schools don’t have to comply with IDEA for kids with disabilities. They are allowed to discriminate for any reason or none at all. #schoolschoose https://twitter.com/katielikesbikes/status/1636446553429647376

Katie 🌻 @KatieLikesBikes

@Forrest4Trees @GregAbbott_TX No one is reporting that private schools don't have to adhere to the Federal IDEA act. Kids with #disabilities will be further harmed because #publicschools provide important services to #PWD and are essentially having their budgets cut in half by the voucher system.
