Students with Disabilities: Between a Rock and a Hard Place

January 7, 2020 By Nancy Bailey 6 Comments

Parents with students who have disabilities are troubled by the problems their children face in public schools. They may turn to charter schools believing they will finally get the services they find lacking in public school. But charter schools are not an acceptable answer in most cases. We’ve known for years that students with disabilities […]

Those Who Seek to Privatize Public Schools are Working WITHIN the System!

September 8, 2018 By Nancy Bailey 19 Comments

Since the anonymous New York Times Opinon piece claiming there’s a critic in the White House, at least one comedian has referenced the 2006 remake horror movie When a Stranger Calls. The babysitter contacts the police to get threatening phone calls traced. The bad guy turns out to be in the house! On a similar, […]

Endrew F., Special Education, and Charter Schools: What’s the Connection?

March 26, 2017 By Nancy Bailey 2 Comments

It requires an educational program reasonably calculated to enable a child to make progress appropriate in light of the child’s circumstances. Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. In light of the current administration’s push for school choice in the form of vouchers and charter schools, and the selection of Betsy DeVos to be education secretary, […]

Au Revoir NOLA Public Schools

May 30, 2014 By Nancy Bailey Leave a Comment

They can call charter schools public schools all they want. They will never be public until they accept ALL children and hire  credentialed teachers, led by actual school administrators who understand children and how they learn. How sad for New Orleans. How sad for a country that was conned into thinking charters were going to […]

The Destruction of Special Education

December 15, 2013 By Nancy Bailey 8 Comments

The firing of a special education supervisor and the subsequent elimination of the position, in Wilson County, Tennessee prompted me to address concerns about a concerted effort underway to dismantle special education. There are signs all over. Most likely you have noticed them too. In the case of Wilson County, Director of Schools Tim Setterlund […]

Voucher schools don’t have to comply with IDEA for kids with disabilities. They are allowed to discriminate for any reason or none at all. #schoolschoose https://twitter.com/KatieLikesBikes/status/1636446553429647376

Katie 🌻 @KatieLikesBikes

@Forrest4Trees @GregAbbott_TX No one is reporting that private schools don't have to adhere to the Federal IDEA act. Kids with #disabilities will be further harmed because #publicschools provide important services to #PWD and are essentially having their budgets cut in half by the voucher system.

As babies explore cause and effect it’s not uncommon to see them test ideas over and over to see if the same thing happens each time. Watch this little guy studying the shadow he’s making on the rug. You’re seeing his brain make connections in real time.

I asked ChatGPT "Is the 'science of reading' settled science that determines how reading should be taught?" Here's the response. https://nancyebailey.com/2023/03/19/what-does-chatgpt-say-about-the-science-of-reading-it-may-surprise-you/
